Monday 12th April - walks ***** - 1 Early prom Felixstowe 2 Hemley – Cold
and frosty start then sunny periods
Walk 1.
Got up early leaving home at 5.45 to walk down to the seafront to see the
sunrise and it was very cold with a frost with a good covering on all the
cars! It was lovely and quiet on the prom and the whole sky was clear apart
a bank of cloud on the horizon delaying the sunrise a little. Luckily there
was little breeze as we walked towards The Fludgers and with the sun now
turning a small section of cloud some lovely colours we decided to continue
to the end at Jacobs Ladder until the sun cleared the cloud cover! The sun
was now bright and we were pleased to have it on our backs now as we headed
back but it was so cold on our face up through the Spa gardens, along the
cliff top and home for a cuppa with the electric blanket on to warm up!
Walk 2.
We had a lovely morning with wall to wall sunshine and I even managed to do
my exercises in our back garden then I made a sandwich with the plan to
head to Newbourne Springs, a little nature reserve we used to take our kids
years ago! The little car park there was full so we continued to another
one of our favourites the Church at Hemley where we were the only car! We
enjoyed our lunch before taking a walk down the lovely hedge lined foot
path avoiding the muddy river path. There was a mass of white blossom and
we had it all to ourselves, sadly no barn owl but we spotted a Muntjac
feeding on the grass before disappearing into the reeds. A few minutes
later something had spooked him as he ran off down the side of the lake! We
carried onto Kirton Creek where we sat for a while with the tide high and a
few boats on the River Deben plus a large flock of flying swans:) Then we
started to return and spotted another muntjac, we know it was different
from the first as it only had one small antler. It got through the fence
and crossed the foot path before disappearing into the trees never to be
seen again! Back to the van and onto Waldringfield, filling up with diesel
at Martlesham as we are off to see the grandson on Thursday before going to
B & M for more coal as this cold weather seems set to continue with some
really cold nights coming! We came home the back way through Nacton
spotting some lovely black lambs, returning to get some pics and home for a
warming cuppa and cake!
